Live, Laugh and Love

Life in general takes humor. If we can’t laugh at whatever happens, then we might as well give up. I have found in life that everything happens for a reason. Whether it be good or bad, there is a reason for going through whatever it is you’re going through. In my life I have seen lots of ups and lots of downs, good times and bad times. I realize in the good times I need to soak them up, keep them as wonderful memories. In the bad times, I can either become bitter or better. We can use these bad times as learning points to become bitter and angry at life or to become better and happy in life.

I have also realized in my life that I need God with me to lead the way. Without God I couldn’t achieve my goals or live the life I do. I rely heavily on Him to lead me through the good times and the bad times. He is always there and always ready to listen. So, in life we can make jokes and have fun and live, I just choose to do it all with Jesus in my heart.

This is a bit off the main theme of being a single mom, a hairdresser and a student, I understand. But, I feel if it weren’t for God I wouldn’t have had the opportunities and support I have had to do all of these things at once. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t thank Him for all the blessings in my life. Even for the mistakes and hard times, because these are what shape us. Become better or bitter. I choose better!

Do Not Try This At Home

OK this is classic do not try this at home! Also, it proves a person should NOT go to youtube for advice on how to do hair. Hairdressers have a license, just like doctors and nurses. Personally, I find this video hilarious, her face is priceless when she realizes her hair is burnt off. Please, don't leave a curling iron or flat iron on your hair for the count of 20 or more.

Things A Hair Stylist Hear!!

Working in a beauty shop we hear some funny things. Here is are a few things to give you some laughs and maybe some ideas on what not to say to a hairstylist.

1. "I don’t need a trim today I don’t have any split ends." OK sister you get a perm and have bleached hair and never get it trimmed so you most definitely DO have split ends. The best bet for your hair is to shave it off and start over!

2. "I want layers, just three of them." If I cut you three layers your hair is going to look like a Christmas tree. Not a good look to have!

3. "I used blackest black on my hair from Wal-Mart, then decided it was too dark so I used blondest blond to lighten it." The first mistake here is getting color from Wal-Mart, don’t do it! Secondly color will not lighten color. You need professional help and lots of prayer to remove blackest black color from a box.

4. "I want Miley Cyrus hair." This doesn’t even need explaining, just a bad choice all around!

5. "Cut around my ears and short on top, but leave the back long." This is and always will be a mullet. Yet another bad choice! And getting a mullet does not save you from looking like a redneck, it totally defines redneck!

6. "Just trim the ends." Sure I was planning on trimming the middle and leaving the ends, but if you insist on just the ends so be it. Really?

7. "I want this curly, voluminous hairstyle. I don’t want to blow dry or style it though." Hello!! Pictures of hairstyles have been worked on for hours. You are NOT going to wake up looking like a hair model. Get a blow dryer and some product and use them!

8. "My husband wants me to have long hair." Does your husband fix your hair? Did he marry you because of your long locks? If yes then you need to reevaluate. If no, do what you want with your hair. You are the one who fixes it and tends to it daily.

9. "It really scares me to get a haircut." Look, it’s hair, it is going to grow back!

10. "Ask my wife how she wants my hair cut." UGH!! You are a man, get a mans haircut. Your wife might want you to look like Brad Pitt, but just the hair won’t do it. Make a decision on your own how you like your hair!

These are just a few of the things I have heard over the years. Sometimes I just have to take a minute and look at the client to see if they are really serious when these things come out of their mouths!
